Find a Practitioner

People ask me "how can I talk my doctor into giving me the natural treatments that I need?" In most cases, the answer is that you can’t. Most doctors appropriately will not do the things that they are not properly trained in. This does not make them a bad physician. If you came to me and said "Dr. Teitelbaum, I would like you to do a heart bypass operation on me" I would say "I’m sorry, I am not trained in this so I can’t." If you then gave me a copy of a book called "From Bypass to Fantastic" and a scalpel, you would still not want me doing surgery on you. This would not make me a bad physician and your doctor not treating you holistically or naturally does not make them a bad physician either. The best thing to do is to go to a physician who specializes in and is trained in using natural therapies.

In the past, these doctors were simply not available, or at best hard to find. This has changed.

Although many superb and very gifted naturopaths are self trained and wonderful healers, it is sometimes hard to tell how well trained they are, so you will need to ask around. Another excellent option would be to see a naturopathic physician that is a graduate of one of the four-year naturopathic colleges. This training is on par with medical school training for M.D.s, but focuses on natural therapies. They should be allowed to prescribe and practice medicine within their field of practice, and in some states they can. Unfortunately, our medical monopoly is not quick to give up any power, so in many states they can not yet prescribe. To find a four-year naturopathic physician (N.D.), visit the American Academy of Naturopathic Physicians.

To find a pain specialist, visit the American Academy of Pain Management.

Chiropractors can also be very helpful for pain, and many are excellently trained in natural therapies as well. Having sued the AMA for being a monopoly and won, they are able to practice and can be found easily throughout the U.S.
