Some probiotic products are manufactured with an "enteric coating," making them super-high potency — and without the need for refrigeration.

Packing the healthy bacteria of probiotics and their food into an enteric coating protects it from dissolving in stomach acid. This creates a protected path of travel to the small intestines (like troops safely traveling in protected tanks through the "acid war zone" of your stomach). These then dissolve in the alkaline environment of the small intestine, releasing many, many more healthy bacteria to fight for you than the non-enteric coated varieties of probiotics. Without this process, 99.9% of the healthy bacteria will actually be dead before they get past the stomach, which means they can’t fight the "enemy" bacteria for you to maintain healthy gut bacteria levels.
