Parkinson’s Disease
Background
This neurologic movement disorder is characterized by resting tremor and stiff movement and is benefitted by medications that raise the neurotransmitter dopamine.
Early in the course of the disease, the most obvious symptoms are movement-related, including shaking, tremor, rigidity, slowness of movement and difficulty with walking and gait.
Its cause is unknown.
Treatments
Your neurologist can guide you on standard medical care.
Recommended Supplements
Intravenous magnesium and glutathione
Intravenous treatments with magnesium (which decreases muscle spasticity) and glutathione (an antioxidant which protects brain tissue) can result in immediate and dramatic improvement. These are given by holistic physicians. Overall nutritional support by mouth can help maintain improved function over time.
Sublingual glutathione
A special sublingual reduced glutathione provides key support and is much cheaper than the IV. I recommend 1-2 dissolved under the tongue 2x daily.
CoQ10
High doses help. So 1,200-1,500 mg of most forms, or 200-400 mg of these highly absorbed chewables containing GammaSorb®.
PEA
Research is mounting that for neurodegenerative diseases in general, especially in the presence of chronic pain, a supplement called PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) 600 mg a day can be quite remarkable in both decreasing pain and regenerating nerve and brain cells. It takes three months to start seeing the effect however, so give it time.
NADH
Take NADH 20 mg under the tongue daily (at least 45 minutes before eating if using the tablets). This nutrient raises dopamine levels, and in a study of 885 Parkinson’s patients improved function significantly in 78% of subjects.
Multivitamin powder
Take a good multivitamin powder. The powder includes the magnesium, as well as glycine and NAC to raise glutathione.
Other Therapies & Advice
For Bladder urgency
The herb angelica and magnesium 200 mg a day (present in a good vitamin powder), can both help decrease bladder urgency.
